Agency for Prevention of Corruption strengthens its capabilities in applying risk-based verification of income and asset declarations

Building on the previously developed Methodology for verifying income and asset declarations, the Action against economic crime in Montenegro organised a two-day training for the staff of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption on 10–11 April 2025. The verification methodology aims to streamline risk-based controls by defining clear triggers and expected outputs. The training focused on the practical application of this Methodology to real case examples.

Throughout the session, participants were guided through each stage of the verification process, with particular emphasis on the selection of declarations for in-depth review. The training brought together 15 staff members of the Agency, who built their knowledge in carrying out the verification process.

By introducing a risk-based approach, the Agency is expected to move away from the former practice of selecting 20 officials for in-depth control each year. Instead, both the number and the selection of officials are intended to be determined by risks identified during the plausibility check. This shift is expected to ensure more targeted, efficient, and impactful oversight in the prevention of corruption.

The activity was organised by the Action against economic crime in Montenegro, within the framework of the European Union/Council of Europe joint programme Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye.
