Back “Corruption is a major human rights problem” says the Commissioner at GRECO’s conference

[05/10/09 12:00]"No system of justice is effective if it is not trusted by the population" said the Commissioner speaking at today's high-level conference in Strasbourg organised by GRECO (Group of States against Corruption of the Council of Europe) to assess the challenges in the fight against corruption.In his speech, Commissioner Hammarberg underlined that "corruption threatens human rights and, in particular, the rights of the poor. What is needed is a comprehensive, high-priority programme to stamp out corruption at all levels and in all public institutions." The conference also marked GRECO's 10th anniversary.
