Finland assumes Presidency of Committee of Ministers

Finland will take over from Croatia the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe for the next six months. The outgoing Chairperson, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, will take stock of Croatia’s Presidency and make a hand over to her successor Timo Soini, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland, who will present the priorities of his country’s Presidency.

There will be photo opportunities at the opening of the meeting (11 a.m., Committee of Ministers meeting room – Palais, 2nd floor) and at the moment of transfer (around 12 p.m., same venue).

As per tradition for all countries acceding to the Presidency, the flag of Finland will be raised in the city centre of Strasbourg (at 4 p.m., Place de la République). Before, at 3.30 p.m., a tramway with the colors of Finland will be inaugurated at the station “Droits de l’Homme”.
