Event Information

The opening seminar of the hybrid training on artificial intelligence (AI) and anti-discrimination for public institutions and regulators will take place in co-operation with the Belgian Centre for Equal Opportunities and Opposition to Racism (UNIA). The training is organised in the framework of the joint EU-CoE project “Upholding equality and non-discrimination by Equality bodies regarding the use of artificial intelligence in public administrations” and it equips public authorities with knowledge to identify, prevent, and address algorithmic discrimination. The session will bring together 100 staff members from various ministerial and regulatory bodies of Belgium. Anchored in European human rights standards, the course explores how bias and discrimination arise in AI systems, providing examples from real cases across Europe. Participants will learn about the European legal and policy framework on AI, including the recently adopted EU AI Act and the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence of the Council of Europe, and the role of equality bodies and regulators in safeguarding fundamental rights in the use of AI.
