Zurück Berlin-Neukölln Migration Advisory Council (“Migrationsbeirat”)

Purpose: A specific advisory council for migrants living in Neukölln.

Process: Berlin-Neukölln has set up a special body within the local council for migrants living in the district. Known as the Migration Advisory Council, it represents the interests of migrants in all areas of life and encourages their participation in civic and political affairs.

The council is made up of members from various associations and institutions that work with migrants or are responsible for migration issues, including the Employment Agency, the police, Caritas and the Humanist Association. It consists of 12 representatives from these bodies, eight individuals with a migrant background or experience, and one representative from each group on the Neukölln district council.

As well as coordinating various projects and programmes, the council makes recommendations, proposals and statements to the local council. It is chaired by the Neukölln Commissioner for Migration, currently Arnold Mengelkoch.
