On 22 May, the Department for the Execution of Judgments participated in a round table in Sofia on enforcement of domestic judicial decisions concerning child custody and contact rights, organised by the Bulgarian Chamber of Private Bailiffs. The round table brought together different stakeholders, including the Deputy Minister of Justice, the Deputy President of the Sofia District Court, representatives of the State Agency for Child Protection and the Social Services Agency, advocates, judges as well as experts from the non-governmental sector.
The participants discussed the obstacles faced when enforcing such judicial decisions. They exchanged views on possible ways to ensure effective enforcement, which is also of relevance for the execution of the European Court’s judgments against Bulgaria in the Aneva and Others group of cases. The participants emphasised the need for certain amendments in the legislation to increase the effectiveness of the enforcement procedure, for the development of methodological support, and for ensuring a functioning mechanism to coordinate the actions of all authorities involved.
