Annual Forum of Local Self-Government in Lviv (Ukraine), 27-28 March 2014


[26-03-2014] On 27-28 March 2014 the Council of Europe, through its Programme “Strengthening the capacity of local authorities in Ukraine”, co-organises the Forum of Local Self-Government in Lviv (Ukraine) with a broad international representation.

The Forum is aimed at discussing the current state of the local self-government as well as local and regional democracy in Ukraine and delivering recommendations on its promotion. The Forum panel discussions will be devoted to the on-going local self-government reform, dialogue between public authorities and civil society, e-governance and local economic development.

The expected participants in the Forum are local leaders from different parts of Ukraine, representatives of local government associations, central authorities, civil society, diplomatic corps, international organisations and experts, including the Deputy-prime-minister – Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Municipal Economy Mr Volodymyr HROISMAN, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mr Pavlo SHEREMETA, Minister of Finance Mr Oleksandr SHLAPAK and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, Ambassador Jan TOMBIŃSKI.

The Council of Europe position will be presented by Mr Alfonso ZARDI, Head of Democratic Institutions and Governance Department of the Directorate General of Democracy, Council of Europe Secretariat General, and the Council of Europe local and international experts.

Following the Forum the Resolution is to be adopted containing the address to local governments and its associations, President of Ukraine, Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Prime-Minister, representatives of Ukrainian and international community underlying the key priorities and challenges of local governance development in Ukraine.
