Administrative History: |
The Council disseminates a considerable volume of information through its websites. The dynamic and ephemeral nature of the web as a medium poses challenges for preservation and access of web content for future audiences. To archive its websites, the Council of Europe uses the Archive-It subscription service of Internet Archive, a non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving websites. The Archive IT subscription service includes hosting, access and storage. The archive is managed and searched via a web-based application. Since February 2009 Council of Europe web pages are crawled on a weekly basis and the content is rendered available in-definitely via the Internet. |
Currently, websites with URLs beginning with coe.int (core Council of Europe), as well as those of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (assembly.coe.int) and the European Commission for Democracy through Law / Venice Commission (venice.coe.int) are archived. The websites of the Information Offices of the Council of Europe in Eastern and Central Europe are crawled once a year. |
