The European Heritage Network (HEREIN) brings together government departments responsible for cultural heritage under the umbrella of the Council of Europe. Since it was set up in 1999, the HEREIN network has become a reference point for government bodies, professionals, researchers and non-governmental organisations active in the field of heritage.

 


Launch of four HEREIN working groups

The Secretariat launched HEREIN Working Groups which will contribute to the success of our next plenary meeting. The working groups have been given the task of preparing documents and suggestions for the plenary discussions, aimed at refreshing the vision, organisation, communication and activities of the HEREIN initiative. A call has been made to national coordinators to contribute. Four working groups are currently active: WG1, Vision and strategy. Chair: Ben de Vries (the Netherlands). Participants: Brigitte Myle (Belgium) Aleksandra Chabiera (Poland); WG2, Governance and organisation. Chair: Jelka Pirkovic (Slovenia) and Alfredas Jomantas (Lithuania). Participants: Bruno Favel, Orane Proisy (France), Sergiu Musteata (Moldova); WG3, Communication and dissemination. Chair: Malgorzata Fokt-Willmann (Poland) and Gislaine Devillers (Belgium). Participants: Igor Maroevic (Croatia), Dejan Gazivoda (Montenegro), Tarik Jazvin (Bosnia Herzegovina); WG4 and 5, Database guidelines and Thesaurus. Chair: Irina Oberlander-Tarnoveanu and Orane Proisy. Participants: Phil Carlisle, Jos Snellings.

HEREIN Coordinators Meeting: Strasbourg, 29-30 November 2012

 

The next plenary meeting of the HEREIN national coordinators will take place in Strasbourg on 29-30 November. More information about the agenda will follow, and formal invitations are going to be sent out shortly.

 

Please book your hotel as soon as possible, as it will be the Christmas market period in Strasbourg.

 


 

Belarus joins HEREIN

 

We are very pleased to announce that Belarus joined the HEREIN network, and to welcome in our group Ms Natalia Khvir, Superintendent of the Division for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus.

About the Cultural Heritage Conventions

 

The Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro Convention, CETS N. 199) was signed:

by Slovakia on 23 May

by Hungary on 8 June

by Belgium on 25 June

and ratified by Armenia on 22 August.

 

The European Landscape Convention (CETS N. 176) entered into force in Andorra on 1 July 2012.


Voluntary contributions

France and Belgium announced voluntary contributions to HEREIN for the year 2012. We would like to thank them for their strong support to our initiative.
