At the invitation of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Alvaro Gil-Robles, the regional ombudsmen of the Russian Federation, as well as Vladimir Lukin, the new Russian Federal Ombudsman, are taking part in a round table at the Council of Europe on 18 and 19 March 2004.
The meeting, which has been organised by the Commissioner in co-operation with the European Union, aims to familiarise the participants with the workings of the Council of Europe and to promote the establishment of regional ombudsmen in all parts of the Russian Federation.
During his visit, Mr Lukin met the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Human Rights Commissioner, the Ministers' Deputies and the Executive Director of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe, as well as representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly, the European Court of Human Rights and certain Directorates General of the Organisation. |
