Belgium and the Council of Europe Accession Belgium was one of the ten States which founded the Council of Europe on 5 May 1949.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Belgium is € 4 479 088.70 (i.e. 2.1849 %).
