Austria and the Council of Europe

Accession
Austria became the 15th member State of the Council of Europe on 16 April 1956.

Committee of Ministers
- Dr. Michael SPINDELEGGER, Minister for Foreign Affairs
- Thomas HAJNOCZI, Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe since January 2009.

Parliamentary Assembly
Austria is represented in the Parliamentary Assembly by a delegation of 6 representatives and 6 substitutes, including:
- Gisela WURM (SOC), head of the delegation and Parliamentary Assembly Vice-President.

Congress of Local and Regional Authorities
Austria is represented in the Congress by a delegation of 6 representatives and 6 substitutes, including:
- Dr. Herwig van STAA (EPP/CD), Tyrol, head of the delegation.
- Hilde ZACH (EPP/CD), Innsbruck, Vice-President of the Congress and Vice-President of the Chamber of Local Authorities.

Budget
The Council of Europe's ordinary budget for 2009 is € 205 002 000. The contribution of Austria is € 3 654 980.66 (i.e 1.7829 %).

Human Rights
Ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights on 3 September 1958.
