The Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society: Italian (Heritage) Communities abroad.

The Council of Europe’s Venice Office, in collaboration with local stakeholders, organised a seminar on the Faro Convention and the concept of heritage communities. The seminar took place on 20 March in Croatia at Castel Bembo, the headquarters of the Italian Community of Valle.

The Italian Community of Valle can be considered a good example of heritage community as described in the text of the Convention, according to which a heritage community consists of “people who values specific aspects of cultural heritage which they wish, within the framework of public action, to sustain and transmit to future generations”.

The main aim of the seminar was to continue the exchange of good practice by linking the activities promoted by the Italian community in Istria to the general framework of the Faro Convention.

The seminar was also the occasion for networking and establishing the basis for future projects and collaborations.
