Small grants awarded to Armenian municipalities with big ideas!

The Council of Europe is pleased to confirm support for exciting project proposals that will impact on issues such as civil participation, youth engagement, sports development, waste management, and transparent decision-making at the local level in Armenia.

Some 20 municipalities from all across Armenia today received small grants to implement projects that were developed following a series of workshops organised by the CoE’s Centre of Expertise for Good Governance.  The workshops were designed to develop capacities of local authorities based on the Centre’s toolkits on Civil Participation, Performance Management and Inter-municipal Cooperation.  Project proposals were assessed based on several criteria including sustainability, innovation, replicability, environmental impact and engagement with women, youth and poor or disadvantaged citizens and will be implemented in 2020 with the best practice disseminated to other municipalities in 2021.

These small grants have been awarded in the framework of the “Democratic Development, Decentralisation and Good Governance in Armenia” project, financed by the Austrian Development Agency and implemented in the context of the CoE Action Plan for Armenia 2019-2022.
