Winners and finalists of the Contest of local government best practices in Ukraine 2019

Ukraine continues the tradition of organising the Contest of local government best practices based on the Council of Europe methodology. This annual initiative has been implemented in for eight years already, since 2014 by the main organiser – MinRegion in partnership with the Ukrainian local government associations, with the Council of Europe support.

The results of the Contest 2019 were announced in Kyiv on 4 December: 30 local, district and regional authorities awarded for beacon initiatives in:

1. Activities and decisions of local authorities to increase local budget revenues.

2. Regions and communities’ development based on unique local features.

3. Practices of youth involvement in local economic development.

Deputy Minister of Community Development Viacheslav Nehoda, member of the Parliament Dmytro Mykysha (former winner of the Contest in his previous capacity of Merefa City Vice-Mayor), leaders of local government associations, experts and other senior officials took active part in the conference and encouraged exchange of best practice in Ukraine. More than 20 regional and local media representatives attended the event to support the media coverage and promotion of best practices across Ukraine.

The conference and award ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development in the framework of the Council of Europe Programme “Decentralisation and local government reform in Ukraine”.
