In its long-standing commitment to journalist safety, the Netherlands has come with a voluntary contribution to the Council of Europe's Campaign for the Safety of Journalists- Journalists Matter. This pledge is a part of the Netherlands' broader efforts to enhance journalist safety, including initiatives such as the Persveilig project, which aims to protect journalists from threats and aggression.

The Council of Europe’s Campaign for the Safety of Journalists focuses on increasing awareness and strengthening the protection of journalists worldwide. In their crucial role of informing society, journalists face a spectrum of dangers, including harassment, physical attacks, and threats.

With this commitment, the Netherlands and other member States of the Council of Europe reaffirm the indispensable role of journalists in sustaining democracy and the rule of law, intensifying their efforts to mitigate the growing dangers faced by journalists through the implementation and support of this Campaign at the national level.
