The Group of Specialists on the European Diploma for Protected Areas (EDPA) held its annual meeting on 18 March 2026 in Strasbourg.
EDPA Specialists examined the annual reports on the compliance of the Diploma holding areas with the conditions attached to the award, monitored the situation of areas requiring particular attention and identified new possible areas at risk. Three new applications for the European Diploma of Protected Areas (EDPA) - two from Poland and one from Georgia - were presented to the Group of Specialists on the EDPA. The Group analysed the three applications and decided to conduct the on-the-spot appraisal required before the EDPA can be awarded.
Furthermore, participants in the meeting exchanged on the Granada Declaration adopted by managers of Diploma holding areas in 2025 to give new impetus to nature conservation strategy based on protected areas. They also explored linkages with the Strategic Plan for the Bern Convention for the period to 2030. Finally, on-the-spot appraisal visits for the Diploma holding areas, whose Diploma is due for renewal in 2027 and 2028, were discussed and decided upon.
For more information, you can find the agenda on the meeting webpage.
