In a significant step toward combating peer violence and enhancing student well-being, 72 mentors from 36 elementary and high schools across Serbia have been equipped with the essential skills and tools needed to create and develop school-based action plans to foster safe and supportive school environments and strengthen students’ emotional well-being.
Conducted as part of the Council of Europe project "Prevent Bullying and Peer Violence in Schools," funded by Germany, the training brought together mentors who will support the schools across Serbia in the prevention efforts and the establishing of safe, inclusive, and democratic learning environments, in close consultation and cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
During the first two days, participants worked intensively in groups to analyse the current situation in their schools based on the key results from the National research on bullying, peer violence and students’ wellbeing, identify priority issues, and define clear goals and indicators of successful plan. Through interactive sessions, mentors learned to plan concrete initiatives, from classroom-level workshops to school-wide campaigns, focusing on realistic steps, available resources, and sustainability. They explored how to design creative and evidence-based activities affecting different groups- students, teachers, parents, and school principals – and how they could integrate them into the school's comprehensive plans on safety and inclusion.
The event was concluded with the presentations of the developed action plans on violence prevention, enhanced school climate and strengthen the interactions and cooperation between school staff and parents.
This project is implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by Germany. It is being carried out in co-operation with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Republic of Serbia from January 2024 to December 2025.
