Georgia: Parliamentary Oversight over the execution of ECHR judgments

On 2 October a representative of the Execution Department took part in the launch in Tbilisi, Georgia, of the Council of Europe project “Supporting Parliamentary Oversight over Execution of the ECHR judgments”.

The project aims to assist national stakeholders in strengthening domestic mechanisms for more efficient implementation of the ECHR judgments.

During the launch event, participants discussed the relevant legal framework and existing mechanisms, including the annual reports on execution of the ECHR judgments which are submitted to Parliament by the Government. Attention was also paid to the possibility for the Government of submitting to Parliament the Action Plans and Reports concerning the execution by Georgia of the ECHR judgments.

Speakers included the Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia, representatives of the Georgian Government Agent’s Office, the Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, the Ombudsman’s Office as well as NGOs.
