Event “Donbas Talks: the stories of those who create the future” held in Kyiv

On 12 December a discussion platform “Donbas Talks: the stories of those who create the future” held in Kyiv.

The event was organized by the “Parliamentary platform for the future of Donbas” in cooperation with the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine”.

Participants were welcomed by Mr Serhiy Taruta, People's Deputy of Ukraine, co-chairman of the Parliamentary platform for the future of Donbas, Mr Мårten Ehnberg, Head of the Council of Europe  Office in Ukraine, Mr Ivan Bochorishvili, Deputy Coordinator of the United Nations in Ukraine, Ms Sevgil Musayeva, chief editor of the online resource “Ukrainianska Pravda”.

Speakers from different spheres, but united by the displacement, shared their stories about their life of the last three years, their challenges and achievements in culture, charity, sports, business, journalism.

The inspiring stories and advice were shared by Ms Oksana Sazhevska, director of “Isolation” Foundation, Ms Serhiy Stukanov, journalist of Hromadske Radio, Ms Daria Kasyanova, National Program Development Director of “SOS Children’s Village”-Ukraine, Mr Danylo Boldyrev, silver prizewinner of the World Games of non-Olympic sports, World champion in climbing.

Three years since the displacement an integration of internally displaced persons and development of positive relations in host communities of require special attention.

In Luhansk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk regions the Project carried out activities aimed at finding constructive approaches to integration of IDPs, to strengthen mutual understanding and social cohesion between internally displaced persons and representatives of host communities.

More than 20 integration activities have been held, which were attended by more than three thousand people of different age groups. As a result of this work, more and more successful stories discovered, people are being became the leaders of positive changes.

The Council of Europe Project welcomes an active involvement of all partners, people's deputies of Ukraine, international organizations, civil society sector, media in disseminating the positive experience of IDPs. We hope to continue this fruitful cooperation.
