A new exhibition showcasing the 33 Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe that cross France will be presented at the Maison de l’Europe in Paris starting 1 September 2025. Structured around 34 roll-up panels, the exhibition will allow visitors to discover heritage sites, itineraries, and partners involved in the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe programme.

In addition, five panels will highlight French sites distinguished with the European Heritage Label, awarded by the European Commission, underlining their connection to European history and integration.
Spread across all regions, including those that are less frequently visited, these sites offer an alternative form of tourism, meaningful and value-driven, promoting sustainable mobility and enhancing local know-how throughout Europe.

Alongside the exhibition, two events will be organised:

  1. A public conference, on Saturday 20 September, as part of the European Heritage Days: “Discovering Our Shared European Heritage through the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and the European Heritage Label Sites.”
  2. A two-day meeting, on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 September, bringing together representatives of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe crossing France, European Heritage Label sites, European institutions (Council of Europe, European Commission), civil society, and experts, to address three key themes: existing European funding programmes for heritage; the European values embodied by certified Routes and labelled sites; and sustainable, responsible cultural heritage tourism.

France has been a member of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) since 2011 and is one of its founding member states. Today, France is the European country with the largest number of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, with more than 30 Cultural Routes crossing the country and 14 Cultural Routes having their headquarters in France.

Mr Bruno FAVEL, Head of the World Heritage Mission, General Directorate for Heritage and Architecture, Ministry of Culture, and Ms Orane PROISY, Head of the European Heritage Projects and Networks Unit, Ministry of Culture, are France's national representatives on the EPA on the Cultural Routes.
