On this International Day of Democracy, the Council of Europe is launching the online platform for the New Democratic Pact for Europe.
The Pact is a strategic and political process to reinforce democracy’s foundations, amplify its benefits, and innovate its form as our societies confront challenges like democratic backsliding, disinformation, impunity, and authoritarianism.
The New Democratic Pact lineup
The site contains everything you need to understand the Pact and to see where you can plug into the collective and inclusive process. It is based around three pillars – learning and practising democracy, protecting democracy, and innovating for democracy – and shows how we can integrate these themes into our societies and daily lives. As Secretary General Alain Berset puts it, “The New Democratic Pact website is an invitation to learn, to engage, and to imagine the democracy Europe needs in a world where the centre of gravity is shifting. Because democracy lives in the decisions we make together.”
This platform will serve as a hub for news, resources, and events related to the Pact and its consultations, connecting people and ideas that are shaping Europe’s democratic future.
