CM Chairmanship - Ukraine
Committee of Ministers chairmanship transfers from Ukraine to the United Kingdom
Ukraine currently holds the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and the President recognised his special responsibility for furthering institutional and political reform of the Organisation, and increasing the effectiveness of the European Court of Human Rights.
The Council of Europe, he said, leads the way in ensuring democratic stability on the continent and in supporting non-member countries in that regard too, thanks in particular to the expertise of the Venice Commission.
Enumerating the complex reforms underway in Ukraine over the past year, President Yanukovych pointed to constitutional and judicial reforms, the fight against corruption, setting up a system of public information, and the consolidation of civil society among his policy priorities.
