On 21 and 22 November, representatives of the Execution Department participated in the 8th Annual International Forum on the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Lviv, Ukraine. It was co-organised in the context of the Council of Europe Project “Support to the Implementation of the Judicial Reform in Ukraine”, in cooperation with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine as well as the Faculty of Law of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, the Supreme Court and the National School of Judges of Ukraine.
Theme of this year’s forum was the right to a fair trial under Article 6 of the Convention. Human rights lawyers, academics, members of the Ukrainian judiciary and judges of the European Court of Human Rights came together to enrich their knowledge and to exchange experience on the subject.
A special session dedicated to the execution of the ECHR judgments focused on the current state of execution of judgments concerning Ukraine. The participants focused on the need to reform the current legislative and institutional framework to resolve long-standing systemic and structural problems identified by the Strasbourg Court’s judgments in cases concerning Ukraine.
