A Council of Europe initiative under the Monaco Presidency supporting youth-led action against disinformation and in favour of quality journalism

30 April - 1July 2026 → Call for Proposals Open

Young journalists, media creators, youth organisations and other applicants are invited to submit proposals for youth-led projects addressing disinformation, media literacy, journalists’ safety and freedom of expression. Applications close on 1 July 2026.

 

6 July - 1 September 2026 → Call for Participation Open

A separate call invites around 30 young participants from Council of Europe member States to apply to attend the conference and interactive workshops in Strasbourg. Applications close on 1 September 2026.

 

15 September 2026 → Selection & Project Support

Applications are assessed by an Evaluation Committee. Proposals are evaluated based on relevance, quality, feasibility, impact, youth engagement and budget. Selected participants and project leaders are informed and mentoring arrangements are prepared.

 

9 -10 November 2026 → Strasbourg Event

Young participants, project leaders, journalists, creators and experts gather in Strasbourg for a high-level conference and interactive workshops exploring disinformation, media literacy, journalists’ safety and youth storytelling. The event combines dialogue, practical exercises and exchanges with leading professionals.

 

1 July 2027 → Deadline for Project Implementation

Selected projects conclude their implementation phase and submit final outputs developed under the initiative, bringing youth-led ideas and actions to completion.

 

November 2027 → Journalists Matter Campaign Closing Conference

Projects supported through the initiative will have the opportunity to present their results and achievements during the closing conference of the Journalists Matter Campaign in the Netherlands.

In short: this initiative transforms ideas into action, and individual projects into a shared European effort to strengthen information integrity, journalist safety and democratic resilience.
