A two-day conference on the safety and position of journalists and the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held at Hotel Monti on Igman, organised by the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina with support from the Council of Europe.
The event brought together journalists, experts, civil society, and institutional representatives to discuss pressing challenges facing the media, including threats to safety, professional autonomy, and access to information. Opening remarks were delivered by Minister Dr. Sevlid Hurtić and Vahagn Muradyan, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo.
In line with the “Journalists Matter” campaign, the conference provided a platform for open dialogue and the development of recommendations to strengthen protections for journalists and uphold freedom of expression in accordance with European standards.
Panel discussions addressed the media’s role in democracy and human rights protection, reaffirming the importance of safe, free, and responsible journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
