The President presides over the work of the Commission and represents it.

Outside Plenary sessions, the President makes decisions on behalf of the Commission, where appropriate in consultation with the Bureau.

The President of the Venice Commission is elected for a term of two years and is eligible for re-election.

MARTA CARTABIA, CURRENT PRESIDENT OF THE VENICE COMMISSION

Marta Cartabia was elected President of the Venice Commission in December 2025 for a term of two years . 

She is a full professor of Constitutional Law at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy, President Emerita of the Italian Constitutional Court, and former Minister of Justice of Italy.
