At its most recent Plenary Session (12-13 December 2025), the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe elected Ms Marta Cartabia (Italy) to serve as its new President for a term of two years. Ms Cartabia succeeds Ms Claire Bazy Malaurie (France), who served as the Venice Commission’s President for four years. Ms Cartabia is a full professor of Constitutional Law at Bocconi University in Milan, President Emerita of the Constitutional Court of Italy and former Minister of Justice of Italy.
Ms Renata Deskoska (North Macedonia), Mr Eirik Holmøyvik (Norway) and Mr Tim Otty (the United Kingdom) will serve as Vice-Presidents and Mr Nicos Alivizatos (Greece), Ms Nadia Bernoussi (Morocco), Ms Regina Kiener (Switzerland) and Mr Martin Kuijer (the Netherlands) as members of the Bureau, the governing body of the Commission.
At the Plenary Session, the members of the Venice Commission extended their gratitude to Ms Bazy Malaurie for her invaluable service to the Venice Commission.
