New York ,

On the last day of his visit in New York, Thorbjørn Jagland met with the former US President Bill Clinton, the founder of the Open Society Institute George Soros, President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Haris Silajdzic and the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg. President Clinton and the Secretary General exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, prospects for a positive outcome in the peace process and the role Europe could play in this respect. The focus of talks with President Silajdzic was the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the forthcoming elections and the need to accelerate the process of constitutional reform against the background of the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in Finci and Sejdic case.

Meetings with George Soros and Minister Schwarzenberg were entirely devoted to the Secretary General's initiative on Roma. Both interlocutors expressed strong support and expressed readiness to contribute to the process.
