Secretary General Jagland has commented on the outcome of the Swiss popular initiative “on the enforcement of the expulsion of foreign criminals (enforcement initiative)” on 28 February:

“I was pleased to see that the initiative on the enforcement of the expulsion of foreign criminals in Switzerland was rejected by a significant majority in a referendum last Sunday - and with a large public participation. The outcome demonstrates a clear commitment of the Swiss people to the rule of law and to the European Convention on Human Rights”, he said.
