Back New assignment for former Deputy Secretary General Maud De Boer-Buquicchio

The Human Rights Council has appointed Ms. Maud De Boer-Buquicchio as Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. She joins 18 other human rights experts to serve as United Nations Special Procedure mandate holders tasked with reporting on a wide range of human rights themes and country situations.

Deputy Secretary general from 2002-2012, De Boer-Buquicchio had joined the Council of Europe in 1969, working at the secretariat of the European Commission of Human Rights. She later worked in a variety of positions, including in the private office of the Secretary General and as Deputy Registrar of the European Court of Human Rights. She was elected Deputy Secretary General in 2002, and re-elected in 2007. She was elected President of Missing Children Europe in 2013, a position she took over from former Advocate General at the European Court of Justice, Sir Francis Jacobs.
