Response to terrorism must be resolute, says Secretary General in the wake of Istanbul attack

Following today’s bomb attack in Istanbul that claimed at least ten lives and left more people injured, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland expressed his solidarity with Turkey’s people and leadership conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of victims, many of them German tourist.

“In this tragic moment, I wish to express my solidarity and support to Turkey, its people and leadership.

Today’s attack affected not only Turkey – it hit us all. Terror costs Europe dear, as terrorists try to weaken our confidence in human values and undermine our way of life – but they will fail to do so.  Only through concerted and resolute action can we tackle this threat, while remaining committed to the rule of law and respect for human rights.”
