Secretary General makes official visit to Slovenia

Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has met the President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar and other key personalities during an official visit to the country.

During her meetings, the Secretary General discussed the follow-up to the Reykjavik Summit and the forthcoming 75th anniversary of the Organisation, accountability for the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the ongoing negotiations for a Framework Convention on artificial intelligence and specific issues related to Slovenia in view of the country’s membership in the Council of Europe for more than thirty years.

While taking the floor at the opening ceremony of the Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) “Changing the Landscape of AI Governance”, Marija Pejčinović Burić underlined how “Our new Framework Convention on AI, human rights, democracy, and the rule of law will provide a transversal approach to ensuring a legally binding framework for AI based on international law which will serve the public interest. AI truly is a new frontier for humanity, and I have no doubt that we can make a success of it if we choose the right, co-operative and international approach”.

Meetings with Minister of Digital Transformation Emilija Stojmenova Duh and with State Secretary for Political and Multilateral Affairs and Development Co-operation Sanja Štiglic were also on the agenda.
