The L’Atelier de l’Europe podcast series is produced by the Council of Europe and is dedicated to its art collection. The 14th episode looks at Ode to Freedom by artist Anthony Alberti, a.k.a. Mr OneTeas.
Ode to Freedom is a 100-piece jigsaw created by 100 people, blending street art, civic engagement and universal values. Formed through a collaborative process, the work celebrates freedom, peace and human rights, like a window opening onto a shared future.
Mr OneTeas first started producing graffiti in 2005, teaching himself the techniques involved. As a frequent traveller and inquisitive by nature, he honed a distinctive style through his encounters with people from around the world. He has created more than 400 works as a graffiti artist, painter, photographer and sculptor. His oeuvre explores the concept of obsolescence and giving new life to materials, all while offering a critical perspective on society.
The work was donated by the Principality of Monaco during the visit of Prince Albert II to Strasbourg on 2 October 2024 to mark the 20th anniversary of Monaco’s accession to the Council of Europe. Since being founded in 1949, the Council of Europe has received several works of art from its member countries, developing into a veritable museum of art, albeit one whose collection remains largely unknown to a wider public. It now owns some 150 works of art – paintings, tapestries and sculptures, which are located mainly in the Palais de l’Europe.
The L’Atelier de l’Europe podcast explores the Council of Europe’s art collection, immersing listeners in the works of well-known artists, from the Palais de l’Europe, designed by the architect, Henry Bernard, via the bust of Winston Churchill, a section of the Berlin Wall, and many more contemporary pieces, transporting them through time and space.
The Council of Europe has teamed up with Passagers du Son and the sound design collective, Micro-sillons to create this podcast. The project was carried out in collaboration with Charlotte Roux, sound designer for Passagers du Son and a director at Radio France, Antoine Auger, history teacher and audio documentary maker, and Anne Kropotkine, audio and radio documentary maker, author and history researcher.
