Council of Europe help member states to strenghten rights of displaced people

In April, the Project "Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova, Phase II" held two key consultations on developing a national curriculum for Romanian language courses for adult migrants and refugees in the Republic of Moldova. On 08-09 April 2026, national partners involved in integration provided feedback on the draft, followed by a 29 April 2026 consultation with representatives from academia, professional communities, civil society, and relevant authorities, who offered targeted input on the curriculum’s content, methodology, and practical use. This collaborative process ensures the curriculum reflects real learner needs and strengthens its role as a practical tool for supporting the social, economic, and civic integration of migrants, refugees, and displaced persons.

A two-day networking event held on 9-10 April 2026 in Gyumri, Armenia, strengthened the capacity of 13 civil society organisations (CSOs) working in refugee response and women’s empowerment, to provide more effective, ethical and beneficiary-centred support. As a result, and building on prior capacity-building efforts, participating organisations deepened co-operation and strengthened partnerships, exchanged practical tools to improve organisational processes, reinforce safeguards for beneficiary protection and advanced their understanding of responsible communication practices. Particular attention was given to ethical storytelling, enabling CSOs to better amplify women’s voices, while preserving dignity, safety, and inclusion.

The event was implemented jointly under the Council of Europe projects Ending Violence Against Women and Promoting Gender Equality in Armenia (Phase II) and Strengthening Human Rights Safeguards for the Displaced Population in Armenia.
