The MEDICRIME Committee held its 11th plenary meeting on 29 April 2026 in Chisinau (Republic of Moldova), advancing international efforts to combat the falsification of medical products and related crimes.
With more than 80 participants the plenary meeting demonstrated the high level of engagement and growing international interest in the MEDICRIME Convention.
Participants included representatives from 30 countries, namely 19 States Parties to the Convention along with 7 signatory countries, other Council of Europe member states and other third-countries.
Observers to the MEDICRIME Committee from the following organisations also attended (AIDF*, ASOP EU*, Europol, Interpol, PSI* and WOAH*). Additionally, the meeting included representatives from other Council of Europe bodies such as the Anti-Doping Convention, the CMED* and the CD-P-PH*.
The Committee considered new request for observer status from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and examined emerging topics such as the gender-specific impact of pharmaceutical crime, the role of Artificial Intelligence and the fight against falsified veterinary medicines. The Committee also reviewed national achievements in Switzerland in combating pharmaceutical crime.
The MEDICRIME Convention’s essential role in both protecting public health and strengthening cross-border cooperation against falsified medical-related products was reaffirmed during the meeting.
