Integration activity “Self-employment, retraining and career guidance for IDPs” held in Kramatorsk

On November the 25th an integration activity “Self-employment, retraining and career guidance for IDPs” was held in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. It was initiated by Donetsk civil-military state administration and supported by the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine”.

The activity aimed on finding the ways to overcome the consequences of armed conflict by internally displaced persons and local affected population, strengthening motivation for self-employment and retraining, as well as improving the efficiency of already existing and new projects in the sphere of self-employment, public works and retraining.

Representatives of local authorities, Donetsk regional employment center, NGOs activists, international organizations and local internally displaced persons participated in the evnet. According to statistics of Donetsk regional employment center, the number of job seeking applications since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation reached the number of twelve thousand persons. During the meeting internally displaced persons received information about different activities organized by the services of Donetsk civil-military state administrations aimed at assisting local IDPs in seeking job or professional retrainings.

Participants were informed that for the period of time from 2015 to November 2016 there around three thousand persons, who found a job, additionally to that around one thousand IDPs were retrained, two thousands persons were involved in public works and around one hundred IDP have successfully launched their business.

The representatives of local authorities expressed their gratitude to the international NGO “People in need” for the implementation of program of small grants for entrepreneurs. They also encouraged other international organizations to support a small businesses development and projects aimed at integration of IDPs into their host community. At the end of the meeting, participants noted the benefits of such activities and exchanged their contacts for future cooperation. Participants have agreed to continue such communication hosted by non-governmental organizations each 3 months for the purpose of promoting further successful integration of displaced persons into the community and prevention of discrimination towards IDPs.
