The Council of Europe supports training for judges of the Supreme Court

On 12 May, 2023, judges of the Supreme Court (overall 33 participants: 12 – female, 21 – male) increased their knowledge regarding the prosecution of international crimes in Council of Europe member states and related case law of the European Court of Human Rights (the Court). During the training session, which was part of the training programme of the judges developed in cooperation with the National School of Judges of Ukraine, Jeremy McBride, the international consultant of the Council of Europe, paid particular attention to the case law of the Court concerning prosecutions of international crimes in its State Parties. Together with the participants, he analysed the key cases of the Court and discussed the peculiarities of conducting investigations on the examples of different countries. At the end of the training, the judges drew conclusions and participated in the discussion of theoretical and practical issues related to the subject of the presentation.


The training session was organised within the framework of the project “Fostering Human Rights in the Criminal Justice Field in Ukraine”, which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” (2023-2026).
