Representatives of local self-government bodies improve their skills for gender mainstreaming in local policies and decision making process

On 11 – 13 June 2018, trainings for 35 officials from 23 local self-government bodies were held in Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhya on gender equality approach in political and public decision making processes at regional and local levels. 

The trainings were initiated by the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on gender equality and non-discrimination and supported by the Council of Europe within the framework of its Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018 – 2021*.

Participants of the trainings were given the opportunity to discuss latest legislative initiatives related to gender equality, current national legislation and policy on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women in context of international obligations of Ukraine. A separate session was dedicated to the Council of Europe’s acquis on gender equality, particularly, Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2018 – 2023, standards and recommendations on balanced participation of women and men in political and public decision making processes, as well as existing European good practices.

Representatives of local self-government bodies were trained on how to conduct gender analysis and assessment in different spheres of public domain for further sustainable development of their local communities, as well as how to develop and implement gender sensitive policies and programs at local level.

These trainings were first out of a series of trainings to be held in regions. Next trainings will be held in Odesa, Vinyytsya and Zhytomyr on 9 – 11 July 2018.
