The Council of Europe project “Strengthening democratic resilience through civic participation during the war and in the post-war context in Ukraine” and  Lviv City Council are conducting a series of workshops "Active citizens: the key to community development" in settlements within the Lviv City Territorial Community. On May 10-19 five seminars were held: in Vynnyky, Lysynychy and Pidbirtsi, Malekhiv, Rudno, and Zashkiv.

The participants of the workshops learned about the usage of civic participation tools guaranteed by the Lviv City Council. In particular, Yurii Lukashevskyi, director of the Department of Urban Agglomeration of the Lviv City Council, talked about the specifics of the work of the city council and the available mechanisms for citizen participation in the decision-making process.

In practice, the participants mastered the skills to solve typical community problems and implement their own ideas, in the format of a facilitated discussion they presented and discussed the results of solving practical exercises and received advice from Council of Europe experts.

The project plans to held five more workshops in June: in Briukhovychi, Hriada, Riasne-Ruske, Velyki Hrabovychi, and Dubliany.

The Council of Europe project “Strengthening democratic resilience through civic participation during the war and in the post-war context in Ukraine” is designed to support the implementation of the objectives set out in the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” (2023-2026) to strengthen the democratic processes and address the challenges public authorities are facing in the time of war and in post-war context through active and effective civic participation at the local, regional and national level.
