Equipping judiciary with knowledge on evolving ECtHR’s jurisprudence on human rights and environmental issues in business was one of the main objectives of the training for judges organised by the Council of Europe and the National Institute of Justice in Chișinău. With this action the Council of Europe is assisting one of its member states to reinforce its obligations to prevent human rights abuses by business, ensuring effective access to justice and remedies for victims.
The discussions at the training emphasised the importance of integrating European Court’s case law standards into national judicial decisions. In addition to the exchanges on key case law on human rights, environment in relation to business operations the participants discussed respecting social rights in business activities through the lens of European Social Charter.
To support judicial decision-making through fast and easy access to the relevant jurisprudence of the European Court the ECtHR Knowledge Sharing platform in Romanian language was presented.
The event, organised as part of "Human Rights and Environmentally Responsible Business Practices – Phase I" project and in cooperation with the National Institute of Justice of Moldova, brought together 28 judges enhancing their understanding of corporate responsibilities and their impact on human rights.
