Malta: ELoGE workshop

ELoGE - European Label of Governance Excellence is awarded to municipalities which have demonstrated compliance with the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance, measured against a Council of Europe benchmark. Currently, ELoGE is being implemented in about 20 of the Council of Europe member states.

Malta launched its second round of ELoGE. On 29 July, an online workshop, organised in partnership with the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance and the Maltese Ministry for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, was held in order to present the EloGE tool to Malteste representatives of local councils.

The ELoGE process and the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance were presented to all participants, followed by a discussion in smaller groups. Each group exchanged thoughts and experiences linked to one specific principle of good democratic governance. During the final part of the training session, one participant from each group gave feedback on the discussions that took place, mainly regarding the implementation of the principles at a local level in Malta.

Next steps will include assessing compliance with the 12 principles of good democratic governance, identifying strengths and weaknesses and making improvement plans. At the end of the process, municipalities which comply with the 12 Principles will be awarded the Label.
