Abstract:

To engage 11–15 year-olds on digital risks, France's data protection authority (CNIL) has published L'Agence Privacy, a manga-style comic series tackling hacking, cyberbullying, identity theft and online reputation. The format responds to two realities of teenage life: the omnipresence of digital technology (social media, apps, gaming) and the strong role comics play in building reading habits at this age (per a 2023 study by Junior City and the National Publishers' Union).

The first volume, Le réseau fantôme, follows two investigators from the Privacy Agency, Inaya and Isidore, as they uncover why three secondary-school pupils — victims of online misadventures and shunned by their classmates — appear on a list found in a deliberately torched room. Combining intrigue, humour and educational content, the story translates real cybersecurity and privacy issues into an immersive narrative.

The book was produced with video game scriptwriter Faouzi Boughida and illustrator/comic author Grelin, pairing dynamic artwork and relatable characters with accessible awareness-raising on protecting personal data online.
