Quality Education for All North Macedonia - First Steering Committee

On April 20th, 2023, the first Steering Committee meeting for the "Quality Education for All" project was held in Skopje, North Macedonia.

The meeting brought together representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Bureau for Development of Education, State Education Inspectorate, State Examination Centre, Institute of Pedagogy, Centre for Vocational Education and Training, Commission for Protection against Discrimination, Ombudsman Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Secretariate of the Government of North Macedonia, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, to discuss the planned activities for the project.

The representative from the Ministry of Education and Science of North Macedonia, Aneta Trpevska expressed the ministry’s satisfaction about this new project and the positive impact it is expected to make on formal education. She emphasized that the support of the Council of Europe is greatly welcomed and through this project awareness about democracy and citizenship education can be increased.

Vesna Atanasova, Head of Unit in the Division of Formal and Non-Formal Education of the Council of Europe, emphasized the importance of commitment and active involvement of the Steering Committee members to ensure success of the project.

The representative from the Embassy of Germany in Skopje reminded participants that every educated child is a happy child and thanked everyone for their efforts towards this project.

The project team presented the overview of the project, aiming to promote democracy and human rights in education, and to equip young people, teachers, and school staff with the competences to live in a multicultural democratic society.

The Steering Committee members voiced their support for the proposed plan and activities and committed to working together to achieve the project's goals.

The project will pilot its activities among 25 schools and will build upon accumulated experience from regional projects and national educational resources. It will also strengthen and consolidate institutions and policies, while actively promoting democratic principles among the student population.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for October 2023.

The project, "Quality Education for All - North Macedonia," is implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by Germany, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia. The project will run from December 2022 to November 2025.
