The Digital Citizenship Education (DCE) Promoters Network has successfully concluded its 8th plenary meeting today, marking a significant step forward for further co-ordinated digital citizenship efforts across Europe. The two-day event brought together network members and key experts to reflect on recent achievements and challenges, assess ongoing global threats, and shape the strategic direction for the years ahead.
The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to review the Network’s impact during the current mandate, which ends in June 2026. Participants collectively evaluated the progress made, particularly in the context of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025, identified areas needing further attention, and discussed the evolving landscape of digital citizenship. New functions to be included in the updated terms of reference were also discussed and agreed upon.
A major focus of the meeting was the final review of the draft Road Map for Strengthening Digital Citizenship Education 2027-2031 and further promotion of the DCE Planner. These reference documents aim to ensure more dynamic, diversified, and representative action throughout the member States, while strengthening collaboration with relevant stakeholders at local and international levels.
With plans for enhanced structural rotation, stronger stakeholder engagement, and innovative educational initiatives, the DCE Promoters reaffirmed their commitment to advancing digital citizenship education across Council of Europe member States. The outcomes of the meeting set the stage for future collaboration and strategic growth, with a clear mandate to empower digital citizens for the challenges and opportunities that we face today.
