Council of Europe Panel: Video game culture and creativity

The Council of Europe’s work on video game culture will be presented at the 11th EAI International Conference: ArtsIT, Interactivity & Game Creation in a panel entitled “Video Game Culture and Creativity” which will take place on 22 November 2022 at 15.30 (CET).

The panel will discuss and address the possibilities that video games can offer for creativity in everyday life and educational settings. Video games are among the most popular entertainment industries in the world. It is possible to play games almost everywhere and they are fun, engaging and designed to capture players’ attention. These factors bring both opportunities but also challenges to the lives of children and young people.

Promoting a positive video game culture through digital citizenship education means generating pedagogical reflection around video games: thinking about it as a cultural tool able to foster many facets not only hedonism but also to cognition, learning and development of a person. It also means considering video games worthy of study and accurate and careful analysis of its characteristics, mechanics, and languages.
