The Council of Europe’s Education Department today launched the E-Democracy Lab (EDL), a new online learning platform that empowers learners to learn, practice and co-create democracy through high-quality courses and resources. The platform’s homepage highlights its mission—“Learning and practicing democracy”—and invites users to explore featured courses and thematic catalogues. edl.elearning.ext.coe.int
Hosted by the Directorate for Democracy, EDL brings together practical learning offers across digital citizenship, youth policy, elections, media literacy, cultural heritage and equality, alongside specialised strands such as Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) and the Equality Programme—all accessible in one catalogue.
At launch, featured courses include: Countering bullying and cyberbullying, Intercultural School Development, The Key to Media Literacy: Creating safer and more democratic schools in the digital age, and a pathway on the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC).
The platform offers a multilingual interface (with dozens of language options) and simple access: create an account to unlock full content, with a dedicated login for Council of Europe staff. EDL is mobile-ready and powered by Moodle Workplace, with an official app option.
EDL is part of the Education Department’s Knowledge Hub, the Council of Europe’s digital library for resources, events and e-learning—providing a one-stop entry point for education professionals across member states. Portal
