On October 20 - 21, Kazakhstan organized an online conference to mark the 10th anniversary of its accession to the European Higher Education Area. This accession became possible after Kazakhstan acceded to the European Cultural Convention, and the Council of Europe played a role in preparing the accession.

The conference gathered more than 200 participants from higher education institutions and public authorities in Kazakhstan and a broad range of Kazakh and international speakers. conference was opened by the Minister of Education of Kazakhstan, Dr. Askhat Aimagambetov. The Head of the Council of Europe’s Education Department, Sjur Bergan, delivered a welcome address and gave a presentation on the Development of Higher Education in the Bologna Process.
