How to step up efforts in digital transformation? What progress has been achieved in the context of the European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025? The Closing Conference of the European Year 2025, taking place in Ljubljana on 18-19 November 2025, will showcase the most impactful success stories of this initiative including the best sense-making practices and strategies to make digital citizenship education a long-term priority across Europe.
The two-day conference organised by the project DIGI.DR – Strengthening Digital Citizenship in Educational Institutions in co-operation with the Ministry of Education of Slovenia and the Council of Europe Education Department will bring together key stakeholders to brainstorm concrete actions, explore effective communication strategies and ways to strengthen partnerships, and discuss in detail the draft road map for the future of digital citizenship education (2027-2031).
A panel discussion focusing on educating for the digital age will be followed by three sessions, namely: “Being Online: Media and Information Literacy”, “Well-being Online: Health and Well-Being” and “Rights Online”.
Each session will prepare the ground for the discussions during the thematic parallel workshops respectively on:
- how to build trust in the digital age, foster meaningful narratives in digital environments and empower youth to promote media responsibility;
- how to rethink digital habits, using netiquette to protect and promote human rights and democracy, and how to balance screen time and mental health;
- how to go beyond the algorithm taking into consideration ethical and legal responsibilities of social platforms, promote rights and responsibilities online and consumer awareness which is increasingly becoming a key competence of a digital citizen.
The conference contributes to the objectives of the Council of Europe’s New Democratic Pact for Europe through discussions on ways to learn and practice democracy, foster democratic engagement and fight disinformation by promoting media and information literacy and critical thinking. The Pact unites partners to bring forth a collective response to strengthen the foundations of European democracies.
If you are interested in participating in the conference, please apply via the registration form by 10 November 2025.
