Strasbourg, 12 February 2013, Montenegro has ratified today two additional protocols to the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine, concerning Biomedical Research (CETS no. 195) and Genetic Testing for Health Purposes (CETS no. 203). Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, Ambassador Ana Vukadinovic has met with Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini Dragoni for the ceremony. 

The Protocol on Biomedical Research is covering a full range of activities involving interventions on human beings, including new methods of treatment, diagnosis and prevention. The Convention will enter into force in Montenegro on the 1st of June 2013.

The Protocol on Genetic Testing for Health Purposes is considering the ethical and legal aspects of applications of genetics and especially of genetic testing. Montenegro has simultaneously signed and ratified the legal instrument.
